Our Story

The journey of Leslie Lodge began as a small pine tree haven, evolving into the cherished home of Ray, Lynne and the Finch family. Nestled in the iconic Tudor house designed by Ray himself, Leslie Lodge expanded organically, one room at a time. Lynn’s hospitality left an indelible mark as she welcomed business professionals to their family table. The lodge’s story is woven with tales of Blantyre adventures, enduring friendships, the warmth of Malawians, and, most importantly, the genuine, honest, and kind hospitality that became its hallmark.

Where It All Started

In 2016, the Finches entrusted Zino and Stephanie with the lodge’s legacy. Responding to Blantyre’s growing allure, Zino expanded the lodge, transforming the original family home into a 17 bedroom B&B. After six joyous years as custodians, Zino and Stephanie passed the baton to the new owners, Taki and Ginny Tselingas, and their partners Dave and Sandy Tayler. Connected both by family ties and long-standing friendships with the Finches, they now embark on the next phase of Leslie Lodge’s legacy.

The Leslie Today

Appreciating the lodge’s rich history and its significance to guests and the extended ‘family,’ the new custodians pledge to preserve its magical essence amidst the city’s hustle. Amid exciting plans to blend the old with the new, they officially renamed the lodge ‘The Leslie,’ a nod to its affectionate nickname.
With blessings from the past, ‘The Leslie Executive Hotel’ stands as an oasis in the bustling city, promising to honor its people and nurture the surrounding nature. As a new chapter unfolds, the custodians invite all to join them on this journey as they bring their vision to life.
‘The Leslie’ welcomes guests to share their stories, create new chapters and foster cherished connections for many happy years to come.

Excellent hotel. Very helpful and friendly owners and staff I stayed here for 2 weeks in October 2012. The rooms are a good size with fans and aircon. The gardens are an absolute delight and there is a small pool. The owners and staff made me very welcome. They helped kit me out with a few things because my luggage was delayed for 3 days. I ate there a few nights and the food was delicious. It is about a 25 minute walk to the centre of Blantyre and about a 35 minute walk to Chichiri shopping mall. I would definitely stay here again as it had everything I needed and the service was excellent and with a smile!

Bliss in Blantyre Bliss in Blantyre Following several visits to Blantyre and stays at the overpriced Blantyre hotels, I was recommended Leslie Lodge and what a find! Sheer Blantyre bliss! The spacious bathroom with separate bath and power shower was larger than most hotel bedrooms. The large bedroom had an extended area set aside with a dining table/desk with plenty of nearby power sockets and included a kitchen area with sink, microwave, kettle, tea & coffee, a well stocked minibar and fridge. A bucket of ice was delivered each evening. Room wi-fi was excellent. The air conditioning unit was highly effective and was supplemented by ceiling and wall fans. There were 3 mozzie machines in the room and the very comfortable bed had a mozzie net. Two large built-in wardrobes were provided with plenty of drawers, hangers and space. An umbrella was available for use in the rainy season. My room, like others, had a secluded patio garden with a table, chairs and sun umbrella. The superb value for money accommodation was further enhanced by the personal touch provided by the warm, friendly welcome from the owners, Lynne and Ray. Although I arrived safely in Blantyre, my suitcase did not! It had been lost in J'burg. Lynne and Ray were so helpful in my moment of crisis. Without Lynne and Ray’s help and advice my suitcase would still be lost. However with grateful thanks to them, the case eventually arrived. Both Lynne and Ray are very friendly and caring to all of their guests and have created a wonderful, welcoming and relaxing atmosphere at Leslie Lodge. I will definitely return – hopefully with my suitcase!

Couldn't have asked for more After a week of business in Lilongwe at some questionable lodges, I could not have been happier when I found myself at Leslie Lodge. The rooms have tons of space, and most come with their own patio or garden. There's fast skyband access for internet (though clearly you have to pay for it). Eva cooks some wonderful dinners/breakfast and the rest of the staff bends over backwards to accommodate anything you need. Large flat screen and satellite tv in each room. It's a converted house, so the only downside is that all rooms aren't created equal, but I stayed in 3 and was happy in all of them. And you're a short walk from TJ's if you're in need of a beer or a tasty roadrunner dinner. I'll be recommending Leslie Lodge emphatically to anyone I know staying in Blantyre, I was really sad when I got called back to Lilongwe.

Oasis of Calm! In Leslie Lodge, Lynne and Ray have created a most hospitable and beautiful B&B. Set away from the city centre, the Lodge enjoys total privacy behind high security gates, and no road noise. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, and the shower a dream! Breakfast scrumptious, the star being a freshly baked muffin. An evening meal is offered during the week, but at weekends there's a tasty restaurant just around the corner. Both Lynne and Ray were most helpful; I found Leslie Lodge to be a rare treat, and incredibly good value. I wished I could have stayed longer! Tony Clarke

Middle England in Malawi We stayed for a week -a mixture of business and pleasure. Through the electric gates and we could have been in Surrey -apart from the warning sign for wandering duiker (small antelope), 2 of which roam the well maintained gardens. Our room (No 7) was immaculate, decorated in shades of blue with its own private courtyard, kitchen area (with tea & coffee making facilities, table & chairs, flat screen tv and plenty of storage space. The large bathroom had a shower cabinet (with excellent shower) as well as a bath with shower attachment. Insects are kept away by mosquito nets and plug-in repellent. Lynne & Ray (the owners) ensure attention to detail with Eva (an excellent cook) and Frank on hand to help in any way. Evening meals can be ordered Mon -Thurs -they are excellent & served in our room. There was always a delicious home-made soup, main course with organic veg and ice-cream dessert. Breakfasts are taken in a separate building and are mainly continental -fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts etc -although Eva will cook whatever you want. If you need laundry doing, it's very reasonable and beautifully ironed. A lovely place to stay.

"Best ever" In all my travels, Leslie Lodge is the best I have stayed at. With it's warm and friendly atmosphere, it is easy to unwind after a busy day. I particualary enjoy the the privacy of your own garden off each room. The dining room and food is five star and the owners Lynne and Ray are welcoming and hospitable, making my experience there a memorable one.

Love this place I travel to Africa a few times a year and this is one of the best places I've had the pleasure of staying in. Nice fresh breakfast, large room where you can spread out and have room to work. Largest fridge I've ever had in a room. The water pressure was better than at home! It is so rare to find a place where someone actually cares about the aesthetics of the room. Simply beautiful. Had one very minor issue with the shower and it was resolved in under five minutes. Try to get that kind of service in a hotel. I plan to stay there each time I'm in Blantyre. Can't recommend Leslie Lodge highly enough.

Great for business travelers! I am a young woman who travels to Malawi often for business, and I found the Leslie Lodge to be a wonderful place to stay. It's location is great, and it provides a peaceful and comfortable place to stay and to work in Blantyre. The lodge is a welcome break from the impersonal chain hotels, and the owners are accessible and friendly without being overbearing. I had plenty of space to work comfortably in the evenings. I'll definitely stay at Leslie Lodge on my next trip to Blantyre!

Leslie Lodge This is a small lodge across from the medical college and a mile or so from Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Medical professionals doing work at the hospital or medical school often lodge here for short stays as do others in town on business. This establishment is a little like a large bed and breakfast with beautiful grounds and landscaping. The rooms are very nice with usual amenities. All have television, many have a microwave/refrigerator/ stovetop. All are air conditioned. Internet is available with an extra charge. Security is good. There is one decent restaurant down the main road, but not much else to walk to. Other places will deliver though. Leslie serves a nice breakfast and dinner can be served if you request it. You will need to drive to the downtown for other items. They do have an automobile available to rent for trips around Blantyre. There is no fitness center or spa. Over all, a better value than the hotels and much more charming.
